Our Programs

Choice Autism Center employs hands-on play, creativity and guided learning to prevent skill deterioration and increase overall function.

Programs are based on medical necessity and determined by a comprehensive initial evaluation, but fall into one of the following offerings:

Early Intensive Intervention

For young newly diagnosed children (18 months – 5 years)
  • Intensive programming including 20-40 hours of therapy per week to most efficiently address individualized goals in communication, behavior, motor, social, pre-academic, and self-care domains.
  • One on one individualized therapy with a daily schedule similar to preschool to address the skills your child will need to be successful in school.
  • Monthly parent meetings to review goals and train for success to carry over to the home environment

Targeted Therapy Program

For school age children (ages 6-12)
  • Commitment is 6 to 20 hours per week depending on the needs identified in the initial evaluation
  • One on one individualized therapy within a social setting, focusing on communication and social skills to enable early elementary aged children to be successful in school and with making and maintaining friends
  • Monthly parent meetings to review goals and train for success to carry over to the home environment

 Our comprehensive program offerings address the following:

Behavior

We work with you to target behaviors that need to be decreased. This can include a wide variety of things from self-stimulatory behaviors (spinning, rocking, etc.) to aggressive behavior (kicking, hitting, spitting, yelling, hair pulling, etc.) to self-injurious behaviors to any behavior that interferes with the child’s ability to function at an appropriate level.

Self-care

This includes toileting, grooming skills, and any skills that are age/developmentally appropriate for the child that he/she is not currently able to do but should be able to do. These will be included in the list of goals in your child’s individualized treatment plan.

Communication/Language

The ability to communicate one’s needs and wants in a developmentally appropriate way is one of the most important skills for any child to learn. Communication is a key component of language acquisition. We focus on goals that teach the child how to appropriately identify and name items/people in their surroundings, request items they need, respond to requests for information from others, and engage in back and forth conversations.

Social skills

Social skills are foundational skills for learning and continued communication that are often over looked. Within the social context, the child takes his/her communication/language learning to the next level and applies it in ever-changing peer/school interactions. Without intensive teaching and practice in this area, children may regress in their language skills as they retreat within themselves. Choice understands the importance of social skills and weaves valuable practice with these skills throughout for all children in our programs.

Feeding

Using applied behavior analysis methods, picky eaters can learn to try (and like) new foods. Whether it is different tastes, textures, or even colors of food that your child objects to, we can use a host of behavioral approaches to help them accept new foods into their diets.
